The main objective of implementing the CGHS scheme is to provide a health scheme to the central government employees engaged in the service of the country and to the pension beneficiaries, under which they are provided with good and proper medical facilities,
The Central Government Health Scheme provides comprehensive medical care to the Central Government employees and pensioners enrolled under the scheme, in true sense CGHS covers all the four pillars of the democratic set up in India i.e. Legislature, Judiciary, Executive and Press among eligible beneficiaries Helps to meet all health related needs, CGHS provides a model health care facility for central government employees and pensioners.
At present, about 38.5 lakh beneficiaries are covered by CGHS scheme in 74 cities across India and efforts are on to add more and more cities.

- OPD treatment along with medicines,
- specialist consultation in the polyclinic,
- Indoor treatment in government and empaneled hospitals
- Cashless treatment facility for pensioners and other identified beneficiaries for treatment in empaneled hospitals,
- Reimbursement of expenses for treatment / private hospital in case of emergency
- Grant of expenditure incurred for the purchase of hearing aids, artificial limbs, appliances, etc.
- Facilities related to family welfare, maternal and child health
- Medical consultation and supply of medicines in Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani and Siddha Systems of Medicine (AYUSH)
Eligibility to take advantage of CGHS online apply: –
Everyone in the following categories CGHS Will be eligible to take advantage of the scheme: –
- All Central Government employees paid from Central Civil Estimates (except Railways and Delhi Administration) including their dependent family members living in CGHS covered areas.
- Central Government pensioners (except pensioners belonging to Railways and Armed Forces) and their families.
- Retiring Central Government pensioners and their families.
- Widows of Central Government pensioners in receipt of family pension.
- Delhi Police personnel and their families, in Delhi itself.
- Railway Board employees.
- Child in receipt of pension on the death of the Central Government servant including minor brothers and sisters of such child.
- Former Governors and Lieutenant Governors and their families.
- Former Vice President and his family.
- Central Government employees who are in semi-government and autonomous bodies,
- Parliamentary Secretaries to the Central Government and their families.
- Members of Parliament and their families.
- Former Member of Parliament.
- Sitting Judges of the Supreme Court and High Court of Delhi and former Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
- Work charged and industrial employees working in establishments run by various Ministries or Departments of the Central Government, employees in service,
- Employees of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan located in Delhi & NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
- All India Service Pensioners who at their option retire while serving under the State.
- Freedom fighters and their family members are receiving central pension under the Swatantra Sainik Samman Pension Scheme.
- Family members of deceased former Members of Parliament.
- Members of the staff side of the National Council of the Joint Consultative Mechanism, even if not serving as employees of the Central Government.
- A recognized journalist who produces a certificate from the Press Council of India stating that he/she is a member of the Press Association, New Delhi (for OPD and at RML Hospital).
- Serving and Retired Railway Audit Staff.
- Working and retired Divisional Accounts Officers and Divisional Accountants in the office of the Accountant General in the states.
- CISF personnel (and their families) and CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) personnel posted in CGHS cities.
- Employees of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.
Process to book appointment online for CGHS scheme: –
(Easy procedure for registration of CGHS apply online) :-
- First to apply online for CGHS Book Appointment CGHS official website of cghs.nic.in will go on!
- then on the home page you Book Appointment Have to click on the option of
- After that the beneficiary will have to do OTP verification by entering the given ID.
- After that select the specialty, dispensary, doctor as per your choice and click on Proceed button.
- Then to select a date, a calendar will appear showing the availability of the appointment for the selected doctor, and then the date has to be selected for the appointment.
- When a date is selected, the slot at the top of the screen shows the time and available appointments. A beneficiary can choose the desired slot.
- After that you can book your appointment by clicking on Proceed to book appointment.
